22th September, 2020
Final part of the series of posts, in which 10 year returns of 12 sector ETF's were compared with returns of S&P500. In the previous post, 4 sectors (Materials, Industrial, Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples) were covered.
The last four sectors are illustrated in the charts below, they include:
- 1. Financial (XLF)
- 2. Real Estate (VNQ)
- 3. Utilities (XLU)
- 4. Semiconductors (SMH)
Semiconductors was the standout sector in this group. The sector's average returns were even higher than tech stocks (VGT), but the two sectors are strongly correlated (>0.9).
Utilities, as expected, had the lowest volatility (VAR of 6.3%) with solid returns (>10%), though still sluggish compared to S&P500.
